Eric Ewazen
Piano, and Composition
Eric Ewazen was born in 1954 in Cleveland, Ohio. His music for brass instruments, woodwinds, percussion and wind ensembles have become standards of the repertoire. In 2002, his work "Legacy," commissioned by West Point to celebrate its 200th anniversary, was premiered in Carnegie Hall, and his work "Flight," commissioned by the Air Force Band to honor the 100th anniversary of powered flight, was premiered in Norfolk, Virginia. He has been a guest composer and lecturer at more than 100 colleges and unviersities, including Stanford, Brown, Curtis, Peabody, Eastman and The New England Conservatory. This summer he will be a guest of the Brisbane Philharmonic, Australian National University and at Mahidol University in Thailand, where the Bangkok Philharmonic will premiere his "Concerto for 3 Trumpets and Orchestra." This fall the Alabama Symphony will premiere his new "Song Cycle for Soprano and Orchestra," and the University of North Carolina will premiere a new work for chorus and wind ensemble. His music is available on more than 30 CDs.
