Essex Children's Choir
Choir

The Essex Children's Choir, founded by children for children, grew out of the achievement, energy, and love of learning music of dedicated students at the Essex Middle School, under the leadership of Constance J. Price. Embracing the Kodály philosophy of music education for children, the Choir does not audition. Children throughout Vermont between the ages of 8 and 17 are afforded the opportunity to learn and to discover their ability to achieve excellence through the joy of singing. In January, 2005, the Choir received a spontaneous standing ovation from all during the Inauguration Ceremony for Governor James Douglas. In 1987 the Choir established its Twelfth Night Celebration, and performs as an annual tradition to a capacity audience of more than 1200 people. In addition to performing in choir festivals in Denmark and Carnegie Hall, the Choir improvised with jazz bassist Charlie Haden and the Liberation Music Orchestra.
