Carol Rodland
Viola
Carol Rodland enjoys a multi-faceted career as a concert artist and teacher. This season’s engagements include performances in Germany, Brazil, and throughout the USA. A frequent guest with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, she has also collaborated recently with the Borromeo and Henschel Quartets, is artistic director of the contemporary music festival Sound Encounters, and has recorded for the Crystal and Neuma labels. She made her solo debut with the Philadelphia Orchestra as a teenager and won first prize at the Washington International Competition and the Universal Editions Prize at the Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition. A Fulbright Scholar, she holds degrees from the Juilliard School and the Musikhochschule Freiburg. She has held professorships at the Musikhochschule Hanns Eisler Berlin, at Arizona State University, and as guest faculty at the Juilliard School. In 2002 she joined the viola faculty of the New England Conservatory, where she was recently recognized with the Krasner Award for Excellence in Teaching.
