Shelley Katz
Piano
Montreal born Shelley Katz holds Bachelors and Masters degrees from the Julliard School. He has played under the batons of Bernstein, Osawa, Solti and Dutoit and worked in Germany conducting in opera houses. As a soloist and chamber musician he concertizes around the world in leading venues, including Carnegie Hall, Musikverein (Vienna), Wigmore Hall (London), the Kremlin (Moscow) and Suntory Hall (Tokyo). He broadcasts in Europe, North America and Japan. His 14 CD recordings include: Bach’s Goldberg Variations, Canadian piano solos, Schumann’s Dichterliebe (Kowalski) and Stolz’s Blumenlieder (Schellenberger). In addition to performing, Shelley completed a music technology Ph.D. in 1997 and has filed patents on digital instruments and speaker technology. He is the founder of Layered Sound TechnologyTM. For the last decade Shelley has served as Musician in Residence at Queen’s University’s International Study Center in East Sussex, England. During his tenure he has written, produced and broadcast two oratorios: 'Kaddish' and 'To those on His Left'.
