John Weaver graduated from the Curtis Institute of Music, having had his early training at Baltimore's Peabody Conservatory. He received a Master of Sacred Music degree from Union Theological Seminary and has honorary Doctor of Music degrees from Westminster College and The Curtis Institute. He was organist/ director at New York's Holy Trinity Lutheran Church from 1959-1970 and at the Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church from 1970-2005. He was head of the organ department at Curtis from 1971-2003 and at the Juilliard School from 1987-2004. He has played solo organ recitals throughout Europe, the UK, North America and Brazil. In 2005 the New York Chapter of the American Guild of Organists voted him the International Performer of the Year award. In semi retirement he continues to play numerous recitals throughout the USA and serves as organist/ director at the East Craftsbury Presbyterian Church. His compositions are recorded and performed worldwide.
