Benjamin Britten (1913-1976)
Tell me the Truth About Love

Benjamin Britten, like Schubert, enjoyed improvising at the piano on social occasions and was also an excellent jazz pianist. His four Cabaret Songs, dated 1937, were written to texts by poet W. H. Auden for the singer Hedli Anderson, wife of the poet Louis MacNeice and sometime leader of the chorus line at the Trocadero Grillroom in Picadilly. "Tell me the Truth About Love" is in the style of Cole Porter, with a vamp accompaniment.
